This blog is about two weeks old now and I thought it might be interesting to share my thoughts on the world of blogging. Like most things in life the fun is in the learning. I have read literally hundreds of articles dealing with content, monetization and search engine optimization and I have learned quite a bit building on the experience I already had.
First of all I want to say that just about everyone here already is a blogger, You share your thoughts and links on Facebook and twitter just about everyday. Thats funny in a way because what you are doing really is being a source of content for Facebooks Blog, and your doing it for free. You would think Facebook would be sending you a check for every one of those ads that show up beside your post ,,,, its kind of ironic really, Facebook makes money just because they were able to build a blog that was easy and compelling with a built in readership of your own friends.
That brings me to the Monetization part, It is actually pretty easy to set up a blog now days for free, I use weebly but there are dozens of free sites that let you set one up, and most of them support code that lets you set up google adsense. Google adsense is simply html code you copy and paste in to your blog so that you have the same type of ads running that you see on Facebook. Difference is if someone clicks on those ads you get paid anywhere from a few pennies up to 40c a click. With my blog only being a couple weeks old that amounts to about 20c to a few dollars a day….approximately 1% of all visitors click on an ad on average, my total in two weeks is about 30 dollars. Now I know that is not much but in perspective, this is from the same content I would have been sharing on Facebook anyway so its free money. sorta :)
I say sorta because there is an extra 15 minutes you have to spend a day posting to google plus etc so people are notified when you update, twitter and Facebook are automatic depending how you set things up. But its fun as long as your blog reflects your personal interest.
I'll close now because I didn't want this to be too long. My take is as long as its fun do it, There are people who blog that make serious money, That is something to be explored in another article after more experience but I can say now that those exceptions have become independent news sources with their own inside sources related to what ever their subject is…..and apparently there is also serious money in selling articles telling people how to make money from blogging lol :) Thats no joke….just the subject of blogging is a thriving business….this might be my most read article :)
